Cedarville has possibly one last chance before they get further into irreversible damage. The upcoming board meeting (May 1,2) provides one last opportunity for the board to clear the deck and start over with a new administration. The recent unanimous decision of the board to ignore the faculty committe and support the President in the matter of Hoffiditz is widely interpreted as a serious slap in the face to conservative faculty members, conservative parents of students and propsective students, and of conservative supporters. If the board does not act, the fall semester will surely start with some very demoralized faculty members. Many of these already have thier resumes running straight, true and hot. It appears that the board and administration believe they can lose these outstanding scholars and teachers without continued, serious repercussions - but they will be very mistaken.
The parallels between the Cedarville situation and the Watergate scandal of the Nixon era are pretty interesting. The Saturday Night Masaacre, the secret recordings, the deceptions, the attempted coverups - they have become all too familiar at Cedarville. I guess you could say that Cedarville U. has its own little “Cedargate†functioning in full force. For those who do not remember Watergate, it should be noted that it was not the breakin at the Watergate hotel that brought down the Nixon administration. It was the attempted coverup. Will history repeat itself? Or will the board have the intestinal fortitude to do what is right before they let the institution drift onto the rocks. Could that rumbling sound that is daily growing louder be the breakers crashing over the shoals?
“Trouble at the Top” is the latest Cedarville Situation post just out a few days. It deals specifically with the issue of integrity of leadership and actions of the CEO at Cedarville U. The board of directors, now currently meeting, cannot say they were uninformed.
